Sparxoo Returns with a 2021 Digital Trends Guide

Each year, the digital team at Sparxoo assesses the global marketing industry, and combines knowledge, data, and experience to create a Trends Guide for the year ahead. 2020 was unlike any other year in the company’s history, so creating the 2021 Trends Guide took a new approach.

“It’s a year that nobody saw coming. At least, not to the extent of disruption and uncertainty that 2020 has wrought,” the guide begins. “No one was untouched by the effects of COVID-19, and as a civil rights movement stirred and political unrest increased, 2020 tested the limits of human adaptability.”

This doesn’t mean that Sparxoo sees the future as bleak or unknowable. On the contrary, their Trends Guide is full of hope and creativity. More than anything, it looks at 2021 through the lens of humanity.

“Human beings are hungry for connection right now, perhaps more than ever before,” the Sparxoo team says. Many of the trends’ tips for implementation, then, come down to human connection. 71% of people prefer buying from companies with similar values as them, so trends like micro-targeting and closing deals via video conferencing make sense.

Another way Sparxoo suggests marketing will be most effective in the coming year is in the context of loss-aversion advertising. But not all loss-aversion is created equal, as this excerpt showcases:

“Fear-mongering definitely won’t cut it. Relying simply on the fear of missing out isn’t going to speak to your target audience in the way it might have before. You need to make your marketing human. Align with your customer — remind them that your business is also made up of people who are going through hard times. If your product or service can help maintain some semblance of normal life for the customer, highlighting this can help comfort your potential buyers.”
