Tom Estabrook of Symplicity Designs Sharing Three P’s of Business at Chelsea Drinkard MGM!

“Everything in life is a process.” This message was extremely impactful as Tom Estabrook drove home the idea of examining a business’s processes, which is a key service of Symplicity Designs, a team of effective and rational Organizational Designers dedicated to helping their customers to focus on three P’s: Purpose, Process, and People. As Senior Partner and co-Leader of U.S. Operations, Tom shared his wealth of knowledge for those in attendance at the Meet and Greet Mixer hosted by Chelsea Drinkard at TD Bank.

To a conference room of local business professionals, Tom explained the importance of identifying a company’s Purpose. Owners and operators all too often forget to ask themselves what is the Purpose of their business; the meaning of their company’s life. Tom reminds those who work with Symplicity Designs to ask this question from the perspective of a customer, or an outside-in approach. The customers are the most important assets of a business, after all. Clarifying Purpose allows a business to operate within a scope. Within that scope, professionals can set their sights on reaching goals, which require Processes.

Improving Processes is an essential part of keeping your business efficient and growing. It can help to bring in a set of eyes that is trained to identify the inefficiencies in a client’s processes, such as Estabrook’s. “A lot of people work IN their business, but not a lot of people work ON their business,” said Tom about the all too common issue of professionals focusing on the results of their business and ignoring how their business is being operated. With Symplicity Designs helping to define their customers Purpose, which helps shape their Processes, it isn’t long before their customer’s People start to become motivated.

It can be difficult to motivate your employees, but even more difficult when there is no clear Purpose or Process of the organization. When you find synergy amongst your Purpose and Processes, it allows your People to do their jobs better. Those who work with Symplicity Designs and learn to “create a culture of continuous improvement” have felt this ripple effect. It starts at the core of your business and reaches to every employee when they understand what they are doing and why they are doing it.

With experience working with businesses, government agencies, and non-profits in almost every continent, Tom has defined his own Process that has proven to be successful. Such clients include the National Science Foundation, General Dynamics, the Ministry of Defense for the Republic of Turkey and the U.S. Department of Defense, to name a few. Symplicity Designs’ U.S. Operations is headquartered in Tampa, Florida and is dedicated to identifying Purpose, improving Processes, and inspiring People.
