Johanna Seldes Shares Insights on Interior Design, Lifestyle, and the Human Touch

Members and guests recently gathered at The Tampa Club on April 9th, for an engaging and insightful presentation by Johanna Seldes, Owner of Interior Design Consulting.

With over two decades of experience in the industry, Johanna brought both expertise and authenticity to the room, offering a behind-the-scenes look at what interior design truly entails. Moving beyond the common perception of “paint and pillows,” she emphasized that design is deeply rooted in understanding how people live. While many homeowners wait to hire a designer on their own timeline, Johanna reminded attendees, “It’s never too early.” Designers, she explained, collaborate with homeowners, builders, and architects as part of the team from the very beginning. From understanding how each person lives to planning, design, and construction coordination, her work blends functionality with personal expression.

A central theme of Johanna’s talk was the importance of creating spaces that genuinely reflect the homeowner. As she shared, the ultimate success of a project is when a client says, “I really feel that I live here.” That sense of belonging, she explained, is what transforms a house into a home.

The presentation also touched on the evolving role of technology in design. While acknowledging the growing presence of AI as a useful tool, Johanna highlighted that it cannot replace the human element. Design, she noted, requires intuition, empathy, and the ability to interpret not just what clients say, but what they feel as well as if its a realistic build or not.

Attendees left with a deeper appreciation for the complexity of interior design and the value of working with a professional who prioritizes both form and function. Johanna’s thoughtful approach and engaging storytelling made for a memorable event, reinforcing the idea that great design is not just seen, it is experienced.

We thank Johanna Seldes for sharing her time and expertise, and we look forward to welcoming more inspiring speakers in the future.
