The Tampa Innovation Alliance Hosts October Gathering

August 11, 2016

The Tampa Innovation Alliance is a multi-jurisdictional district anchored by globally-recognized institutions. The alliance was created to drive economic activity in an area that engages tens of thousands of students and educators, healthcare workers and patients, along with four million tourists annually. Mark Sharpe, the Executive Director of the Alliance, has held his position for almost two years and is passionate about creating community involvement and growth in the district.

The Tampa Innovation Alliance District occupies a large area covering about 25,000 acres.  The alliance consists of a group of five main partners and other members. The partnership includes Busch Gardens, Moffitt Cancer Center, RD Management (University Mall), Florida Hospital and the University of South Florida. The goal of the Tampa Alliance is to transform the district into a place where people want to work and live. The alliance is a way to create business and foster community relations.

On October 26, 2016, the 2nd Annual Tampa Innovation Alliance Gathering will take place at the University Mall.  The keynote speaker will be Richard Florida, a theorist who focuses on urban studies. His urban studies reveal why urban innovation alliances are beneficial to cities and communities.

The Annual Gathering is a great opportunity to see what is happening in the area and discover what young entrepreneurs have been working on. It is a casual event that is open to the public, people can mingle and explore innovative projects. There will be music, global food from the region and an opportunity to see what is happening in the area.

The event provides an excellent opportunity to hear from knowledgeable speakers and walk away with an understanding of the future development of the district. The goal of the event is to show why the area is so important and what the community can do to support its growth. Viable cities will not survive without great entrepreneurs who help drive economic growth and development.

It is ultimately the hope of the alliance that the district will become a hot spot for people to visit again and again. The alliance has discovered most people who come to this area are in need of good jobs that inspire them to be a part of something special. The alliance would like to see local citizens working in this area as well as the students who come from around the world to attend the University of South Florida.

With the development of the district, the alliance advocates for outdoor, walkable business spaces. This will promote a healthy, clean environment that is family friendly and environmentally conscious. This will also provide an innovative, safe community environment where locals are encouraged to walk and enjoy the community. The alliance has received a million-dollar grant to help with this transformation.

Here in Tampa, people recognize the Westshore area and Downtown Tampa as important economic drivers, but often times forget about the Innovation Alliance district north of the city. These areas in our community are all very important and are huge centers of economic growth. The Tampa Innovation Alliance is working hard to develop and create business in an area that has not yet received enough attention.

The Tampa Innovation Alliance October Gathering is an opportunity to come out, mingle, learn what is happening in the community and see the new plans for change in the northern Tampa area. Find out more about the event and the Tampa Innovation Alliance by visiting their website.
