Spotlight on BDO Lakeland’s Assurance Director, Ira Anderson

Ira Anderson is an Assurance Director at BDO Lakeland’s office. BDO USA, LLP provides accounting, tax, consulting, and financial services to a range of industries including real estate, technology, healthcare, and other key industries. Ira first joined BDO in 2015 and has over 30 years of public accounting experience. As an Assurance Director he devotes his time providing audit, review compilation, financial advisory and tax services to clients in the Central Florida area.

Prior to joining BDO, Ira served as an Assurance Partner for Crowe Horwath, LLP in Lakeland, Florida. He received his B.A. from Florida Southern College and his experience includes serving privately held companies in manufacturing, distribution, construction, retail, service, private equity group sectors, as well as nonprofit organizations.

Ira is, or has been, associated with various professional organizations within the industry such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, PKF North American Network, Construction Industry Committee, and Leadership Development Program Graduate. Ira is also an alumnus of United Way Young Professionals and Leadership Lakeland Class XII. In addition to professional development, Ira remains tremendously active within the Lakeland community. He is Past Chair and current Executive Committee Member of the Lakeland Economic Development Council.

Alongside his role at BDO, Ira currently serves as Treasurer of Lakeland City Baseball and has previously served as the President and Treasurer of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Polk County. Ira’s volunteer experience also includes Secretary of the Citrus Center Kiwanis Club, President of Polk Theatre, and Finance Director at Shepherd’s Community United Methodist Church. Moreover, he has been a member of the Polk Museum of Art Board of Trustees as well as Girls, Inc. Board of Directors and is on the Advisory Boards for Service to the Elderly and the Drug Prevention Resource Center.

Ira’s volunteerism is symbolic of BDO USA, LLP community involvement values. BDO highly encourages servicing the community while bolstering both local and national incentives. Ira is passionate about utilizing his experience and expertise to give back to the community. It is essential for professionals to give back as this leads to development thus, a more thriving community.
