Shea Barclay Group Volunteers With Tampa YMCA Veggie Van!
Clients of Elevate share a common goal of wanting to help their communities grow and prosper. On April 24, Shea Barclay Group took the time to help out the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA Veggie Van. The Veggie Van takes the market to the people who need it most, distributing fresh fruits and vegetables in communities that have been defined as “urban neighborhoods without ready access to fresh, healthy and affordable food.” Shea Barclay, in their partnership with the YMCA, decided to chip in and help bring food to communities that need it most.
The Tampa YMCA Veggie Van serves the Wimauma Village, Tampa Heights, Sulphur Springs and Lacoochee communitees. Every other week, the Veggie Van makes its rounds to all four areas to deliver healthy food to families. Just as the YMCA helps students succeed inside the classroom, they also want to make sure they are thriving outside the classroom. Healthy foods give growing kids a better ability to focus and learn. The YMCA and Shea Barclay share the belief that all children should have access to fresh, healthy foods, including those neighborhoods and schools with high percentages of kids who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
With volunteers like Shea Barclay, Veggie Van works hard to achieve its goal of serving 600 families across these four communities. Aside from their partnership with the Tampa Metro YMCA, Shea Barclay has worked with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Feeding America Food Bank, and Metropolitan Ministries, to name a few. It’s the passion for helping the communities they serve. Mike Shea, President of Shea Barclay and third-generation Tampanian, knows the significance of neighbors coming together to help one another, personally and professionally.
