The Mark Tucker Foundation is a registered non-profit organization through the state of Florida. Sergeant William M. Roeling of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office developed this organization, alongside some of Mark’s best friends and family, two years ago in honor of Homicide Detective Mark Tucker, who passed away due to illness. This foundation is designated under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code due to them being defined as a charitable cooperation.
All proceeds of The Mark Tucker Foundation are given completely to charities that Mark was heavily involved in while alive. By request of Mark’s parents, two charities this organization fundraises for to keep his memory alive include the Lynn Sowers Foundation and The Spring of Tampa Bay. The Lynn Sowers Foundation assists Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office employees in times of tragedies and the Spring of Tampa Bay is Tampa’s local domestic violence shelter.
On Saturday, March 12, 2016, Deputy John Robert Kotfila, Jr., a Traffic Crash Investigator at the Sheriff’s Office, tragically died while on duty. An intoxicated driver going the wrong direction crashed head-on into Kotfila’s patrol car. John was a graduate of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office’s SOT Class ‘11. After his death, the men and women of SOT Class ‘11 approached the Mark Tucker Foundation to join them in hosting a fundraiser, constructing a memorial monument for John and donating any additional proceeds to the organization, Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The Mark Tucker Foundation was honored to have the opportunity to honor the life of Deputy Kotfila. On July 11, The Mark Tucker Foundation alongside the men and women of SOT XI are proud to announce that they will be hosting the first ever Deputy John Robert Kotfila, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament. This event will be held at the beautiful Carrollwood Country Club starting at 8:30 in the morning and ending midday. The cost of participation is $125 per person, which includes eighteen hole green and cart fees, breakfast, drinks on the course, access to the driving range, and the awards luncheon.
Some competitions will be held where participants can win tremendous awards such as longest drive, closest to the hole, and prizes for teams that are ranked first, second, and third place overall. Also, if you are unable to play golf, you may register for lunch where awards will be presented plus silent auctions and raffles will be held. Currently, these organizations are looking for players to register individually, as teams of four, in addition to corporate and community sponsorships to help make this event possible. All donations can me made confidentially through The Mark Tucker Foundation website.
