Although 2017 had many great highlights, it was a year accompanied by hardships as well. One of the most devastating storms ripped through the Caribbean this past November with the occurrence of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Since MarineMax Vacations and the boating lifestyle partner so closely with the Caribbean, it came as no surprise that MarineMax immediately stepped up to the plate to help.

At the end of November, employees from MarineMax, Correct Craft, and Nautique came together in the British Virgin Islands to assist residents with their recovery efforts. Employees from these marine industry leaders joined together to help the residents on the island of Tortola, and specifically the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

Due to hurricane Irma, the school’s surrounding area suffered major damage including several downed trees, roofing damage, and mass debris. This debris along with the lack of power, air conditioning, and lights has prevented most students from returning to school. The MarineMax, Correct Craft, and Nautique team worked diligently to clear the campus and access roads in order for these problems to be fixed and for students to resume their education.

“We are dedicated to supporting the residents and businesses of the British Virgin Islands. Tourism is an integral part of the economy of the islands, and we are committed to aiding the restoration,” stated Brett McGill, President and COO of MarineMax.

Residents of the British Virgin Islands rely on visitors year-round as tourism is their main industry and source of income. You can help by booking a charter with MarineMax Vacations who will donate 10% of new booking fees through March 1, 2018 to the rejuvenation of the islands. To book a charter to the British Virgin Islands with MarineMax Vacations call (813) 644-8071 or visit www.MarineMaxVacations.com.

Although there were adversities this past year, MarineMax is proud to help where they could and assist in making BVI the flourishing island we all know and love. With the ringing in of the New Year this past weekend, MarineMax looks forward to a vibrant 2018!
