Lisa B. McLean Speaks at the Centre Club

Today at the Centre Club, members and guests had the opportunity to hear from Lisa B. McLean, Hillsborough County Public Defender, as she shared an insightful presentation on the essential role public defenders play in protecting constitutional rights and ensuring equal justice for all.

McLean highlighted the impressive scope of the Public Defender’s Office, the largest criminal defense firm in Tampa, with nearly 220 employees and a budget of approximately $25 million. In 2025 alone, the office handled over 60,000 cases, underscoring the critical demand for public defense services throughout the county.

She also discussed the office’s specialized programs, including drug court, veterans treatment court, mental health court, juvenile services, and mitigation support, all designed to provide rehabilitative pathways and stronger community outcomes.

McLean emphasized the importance of community partnerships and introduced PD13 Street Legal, an initiative focused on expanding access, early intervention, holistic support, and building trust through education and outreach.

Thank you to Lisa B. McLean for joining us and for her continued dedication to serving Hillsborough County.
