This past week the Tampa Bay Business & Wealth hosted a Virtual Tech Connect event via Zoom. We had the delight of hearing Healthmap Solutions COO & President Andrew Wall talking about the future of medicine and telemedicine. Wall discussed how when Healthmap Solutions was founded in 2007, the focus was how to leverage technology to help the most vulnerable populations. Healthmap Solutions focuses on long term renal health and utilizes data analytics to create a “map” for patients and providers to maximize quality of care while minimizing cost and administrative redundancy. He went on to say that Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services modified some of their rules related to telehealth in regards to Medicare during the COVID-19 outbreak to allow more flexibility for people to avoid person to person contact at a doctor’s office while still receiving the vital care that they need. He noted that he only sees an expansion of telehealth continuing, with huge growth in 2020 from the need of remote interactions. One concern from the medical community is the utilization of telehealth as a replacement for person to person meetings. Wall went on to say that the goal of telehealth is to supplement and not replace traditional doctor’s office visits.

Wall went on to discuss how Healthmap Solutions still maintains a sense of togetherness with events such as Zoom happy hours or remote game nights. With inclusiveness being integral to Healthmap’s workplace culture, they’ve made it a point to be inclusive to employee’s families in these connecting events. He also touched on the importance of accommodating their team members who may be higher risk for COVID infection or have loved ones that are higher risk.   Wall also mentioned that they were shooting for July 6th to reopen their Tampa based headquarters.
