On August 12th, Leroy Moore, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Tampa Housing Authority, joined the Rotary Club of Ybor City to share updates on the major redevelopment efforts transforming communities across Tampa.

Moore focused on the Tampa Housing Authority’s work to move beyond traditional public housing models by creating mixed-income, mixed-use neighborhoods that provide residents with quality affordable housing while bringing new amenities, services and opportunities into the surrounding community. THA’s major redevelopment efforts include Encore, West River and Robles Park Village.

Throughout his presentation, Moore emphasized that these developments are about much more than constructing new housing. THA’s approach focuses on strengthening entire neighborhoods and creating communities where residents have greater access to resources and opportunities. At Robles Park Village, for example, THA is planning approximately 1,800 mixed-income and mixed-use homes to replace 433 units, along with a more walkable neighborhood and additional community resources.

Moore also highlighted how redevelopment can bring amenities that benefit both residents and the surrounding area. THA points to additions such as the Meacham Urban Farm at Encore and new retail and financial services at West River as examples of how THA’s developments are designed to support the broader needs of a community.

The discussion offered Rotary members a closer look at the scale of THA’s work and the long-term vision behind its redevelopment projects: expanding access to affordable housing while investing in people, neighborhoods and Tampa’s continued growth.
