TDP Buckhorn TeamOn June 24, Elevate, Inc. attended the 30th annual Meeting and Luncheon which highlighted and celebrated the accomplishments of the Tampa Downtown Partnership. The event opened up with celebrating the many ways Downtown Tampa connects to the community. In recent years, downtown has become a place for festivals and partnerships, a supporter of small entrepreneurial businesses, and a holiday destination. The goal for downtown is be a vibrant reflection of its community through entertainment, cultural reflection, and intellectual events. In the past thirty years, the Tampa Downtown Partnership has brought excitement and life to downtown. In the first decade, 1986-1996 they brought The Florida Aquarium and the Hockey Arena to Tampa. During the second decade, 1996-2006, public gardens began to open, the iconic clock tower came to downtown, and lights on Tampa was implemented. The third decade, 2006-2016 has seen much growth with millennials making Tampa a top spot for relocating, University of Tampa becoming one of the top schools to attend, local businesses and restaurants opening, and the recent completion of the Riverwalk. The recent transformation of downtown Tampa is nothing but amazing.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn took the stage and expressed his passion for Tampa’s growth. He urged the audience to always do what’s right for Tampa because he believes this period of time will determine what Tampa looks like for decades to come. With all of the changes and opportunity downtown Tampa currently has, Mayor Buckhorn remarked “this momentum cannot stop. We’ve come too far to stop”. The momentum will not be stopping as the luncheon shared the vision of downtown Tampa and what exciting projects are in its future. These projects include: Mr. Jeff Vinik’s renovation of Channelside, the northwestern Hillsborough River becoming an urban family friendly destination, and downtown reflecting the concept that you can live, work, and play all in one location. Not to mention the Tampa Bay Rays redesigning their baseball stadium. They shared many innovative ideas for their new stadium and focused on ensuring it will reflect the community. With all of the excitement in our future, it’s no wonder that #TamapHasSwagger.
