Tampa Connection has been building leaders since 1985 and provides young professionals with a unique opportunity to get involved in the local community. During this year long program, the select group of business professionals are involved in community service, leadership development, and community exposure.
Account Executive, Megan Young, joined Tampa Connection in 2018 and has spent the past year involved in the organization and all it has to offer. During her time in Tampa Connection, Megan learned a lot about the city of Tampa. She had the opportunity to see how our city works and got a behind the scenes look at some of the amazing places in the Tampa Bay area. Through leadership training, she, along with her 2018/2019 class had the opportunity to learn what makes a good leader, and how to apply these skills within their organizations.
Throughout the program, participants are split into teams, and each team is involved in a non-profit community service project. Megan had the privilege of working with OnBikes, a nonprofit that raises money to build bikes for children in need. The team created a “fundraiser in a box”, providing a way for companies and individuals to hold fundraising events benefiting OnBikes. As a team, they created a marketing plan, materials, as well as ideas on how to share it with the community.
On her experience with OnBikes, Megan said, “OnBikes is a fantastic organization and I really enjoyed working with their passionate team. I had the opportunity to learn a lot from them. They are definitely a work hard play hard team”.
Megan looks forward to staying involved in Tampa Connection in any way she can, and looks forward to continuing to form connections within her group and within the Tampa Bay community.
“I think what I benefited from most and will benefit from in the future are the connections I made with my classmates, board members and alumni. It has been a great opportunity to meet people I normally wouldn’t have normally met in my day to day life.” – Megan Young
