Samantha Milano, Account Executive at Elevate, Inc. has been accepted into the Tampa Police Department Citizens Academy! This program is closely modeled after the FBI Citizens Academy. Being a member of the TPD Citizens Academy provides members the opportunity to see what law enforcement endures on a day-to-day basis. The program showcases an officer’s tasks at-hand as well as the opportunity to learn about Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Tampa, ride with officers during their patrol, and much more. The participant is provided the flexibility to be as involved and learn as much as you please.
The partaker’s schedule is split into six sessions. The first session is comprised of a Welcome session and learning more about the program. The second session explains the communication within the TPD such as 911 tapes and Live Dispatch Calls. The third session is the introduction to law enforcement, including response to resistance policies. The fourth session includes the scenarios that focus on simulators and traffic stops as well as other vehicle operations. The fifth session focuses on the Specialty Teams such as Marine and Dive Teams, Air Services, as well as the K9 Team. The final session is graduation.
Samantha earned a B.A. in Government and World Affairs from The University of Tampa and is excited to participate in this opportunity with the Tampa Police Department. She stated,
“I am truly honored to have been one of the selected individuals to participate in the Tampa Police Department’s Citizens Academy. I believe it will be a great experience in order to gain insight on the day-to-day tasks of local Law Enforcement. The TPD Citizens Academy will provide me an opportunity to be involved within the community from a completely different perspective and allow me the chance to learn what it means to protect and serve the citizens of our city.”
