RGA Design has transformed what used to be an old motel and ballroom in Plant City into a campus for drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. They were contracted to retrofit a “fight-club-esque” recreation and fitness center into an old theatre which was originally built in the 1950’s. The project was meant to not only serve for patients at WhiteSands Treatment Center, but was also meant to serve as a training facility for professional boxers. The owner works as a trainer for multiple star athletes. Thus, the facility is split in half by a mesh curtain to benefit both parties, and contains multiple different uses—business, assembly, storage, locker room, etc. Functionality is key, providing amenities for the patients to play ping pong, billiards, or board games. Part of RGA Designs re-architecture services strive to keep the culture and roots of a structure intact while updating and modernizing them. They did this for the facility by including a tiny theater in the facility.
The fight club gym was created for professional boxers to train. Two boxing rings are included along with 9 heavy bags, 3 speed bags, 12 treadmills, two full racks of dumbbells, weight benches, and a full locker room with showers. The aesthetic was kept dark and masculine with a modern twist, incorporating highlights of red that are meant to stimulate the brain. In addition, two alternative aesthetic schemes were created to give the clients an option to pick and choose elements from each design that they may like. One alternative scheme was kept warm with a Mediterranean vibe, whereas another alternative scheme used cold colors with a modern style.
