A New Appointment for Alpha Advantage

Successful people understand the importance of both leadership and mentorship. John Bolos, founder of Alpha Advantage Capital, is no exception. Most recently, Bolos has been appointed to the University of Tampa’s Board of Counselors. The appointment will enable him to engage in both leadership and mentorship.

Board of Counselors

The University of Tampa’s Board of Counselors was established in 1962, and its mission is to aid in the university’s student retention program as well as ensuring the general public recognizes, understands, and trusts UT. Counselors coordinate events that promote the university, support funding, and facilitate students’ success beyond college graduation. In addition to networking with other members, Counselors have opportunities to get to know and mentor UT students. Bolos shared that his excitement for the new role stems from his passion for helping others: “It’s also a chance to promote Tampa, its opportunities, and UT’s business school on a national level,” he expressed.

Support Local

Bolos is determined to support Tampa. As the president of Alpha Advantage Capital, he’s on a mission to help establish Tampa as a financial hub. As a member of UT’s Board of Counselors, he’s set on ensuring that students stay in Tampa after graduation. He knows that in addition to attracting talent to a place like UT it’s important to have processes in place for retaining the talent. As a Counselor, talent retention is something Bolos can help bolster. The Board consists of a great mix of local professionals and not all are UT alumni. However, all of them have seen what UT offers the local community and they work to connect current UT students with the broader Tampa Bay area’s network of professionals. Bolos stated, “The Counselors know UT is a resource to the area and it’s important for Tampa’s economic development that we work to keep alumni here after graduation.” Bolos sees this appointment as a way to give back to a city that has helped him while playing a part in paving the way to an even brighter future for Tampa.

Looking Back & Moving Forward

Bolos believes Tampa is one of the best cities in the U.S. It’s hard to disagree. The bay area has no shortage of business opportunities and the city’s recreational options continue expanding. The appointment to UT’s Board of Counselors has led Bolos to reflect on how far he’s come since his days as a college student at Florida A & M University. He’s appreciative for the role because he can help UT students progress, expand UT’s outreach, and all of those activities yield good outcomes for Tampa. Bolos is humbled by the Counselor appointment, which presents an opportunity for working alongside business school professors he respects: “Beyond their excellent teaching, the professors at UT’s School of Business also lead by example. Their real world experiences and entrepreneurial endeavors provide great lessons.” A successful business owner and leader, Bolos has demonstrated that he’s earned his place on UT’s Board of Counselors.
