When CEO Kothand Rajangam of Katpro Technologies found out about The American Cancer Society’s “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign, he knew he had to get involved. Kothand is all too familiar with the hardship of losing a mother to cancer. As a token of respect to the great life his mother lived, Kothand decided to make raising breast cancer awareness his personal mission.
On October 20th, Kothand, alongside caregivers, survivors and men and women from all walks of life began the “Making Strides” walk at 9AM outside of Amalie Arena. Kothand said that “the walk had a great turn out with the whole Real Men Wear Pink of Tampa team showing up”. When asked what his favorite pink breast cancer awareness accessory was, he countered, “my pink tie”!
Kothand joined the team earlier this year when he met Roy Hellwege, CEO of Pilot Bank and chairmen of the “Making Strides” event. He had a great time at his first campaign event and can’t wait to attend more in the future. With a goal of raising $100K, Tampa Bay’s “Real Men Wear Pink” are not far from their target as they have raised $78,455 to date!
This year’s 5k walk was presented by The Seminole Hard Rock Casino Tampa to contribute to the fight against cancer. The “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign has raised over $6.5 Million nation wide to save lives from breast cancer. Some of the services the funds have gone to are; providing patients free transportation to treatments, lodging, access to patient navigator’s and the American Cancer Society’s “Reach to Recovery” program.
