Hillsborough County Public Defender Lisa B. McLean at the Tampa Club

On April 30, attendees at The Tampa Club gathered for an engaging Ascending Leaders Luncheon featuring Lisa B. McLean, Public Defender for Hillsborough County’s 13th Judicial Circuit. With more than three decades of experience, McLean delivered a compelling message on leadership, public service, and the evolving role of the Public Defender’s Office, underscoring its responsibility to ensure fair and equitable representation for all, regardless of financial means.

She offered attendees an inside look at the County’s largest criminal defense firm, highlighting the dedication of attorneys and staff who work diligently to uphold constitutional rights across Hillsborough County. A central theme of her remarks emphasized the office’s holistic and forward-thinking approach to public defense, including initiatives such as PD13 Street Legal. Through this work, the office is intentionally focused on reducing recidivism and enhancing public safety by connecting clients with critical community resources, including mental health services, substance use treatment, and economic support.
