Eclipse Building Corporation: On Making the Big Move

Home is where the heart is, which is exactly why Eclipse Building Corporation president Todd Whalen made the decision to recently relocate the company’s headquarters to the Tampa Bay area.

Founded in 2014, Eclipse Building Corporation is one of the state’s premier general contracting and construction management firms. With an emphasis on upscale retail, restaurant and hospitality projects throughout the U.S., Eclipse has completed a diverse array of ventures which include La Perla, J. McLaughlin, Soho Bay, Stellino’s Trattoria and Bar, Dry Bar, Legend’s Tavern, Pummarola Pizzeria, Sur La Table, Shrimp House, For Eyes and more.

Although Whalen has strong ties to the tri-county area, the South Florida native realized that a permanent move to Tampa was best, both personally and professionally. Eclipse recently wrapped up more than 40 percent of Tampa Premium Outlet’s Food Pavilion. The company was brought in to oversee the build of Green Leaf’s, Bananas Smoothies & Frozen Yogurt, and South Philly Steaks & Fries. With the Tampa area expanding at breakneck speed, Whalen resolved to strike while the iron is hot, which meant an immediate move to Florida’s west coast.

“Tampa is currently Florida’s building hotspot,” Whalen explains. “It’s a dream destination. Watching the city come to life is amazing. We’re currently looking at a booming economy that is like nothing else going on in the state right now. The city is blowing up. More than 4 million people have chosen the Tampa area as a home—and with good reason. With plans to expand the port and transform downtown into an environment-friendly, live-work area that is second to none, relocating Eclipse Building Corporation to Tampa was a no-brainer.

“There has never been a more exciting time to be a Tampa resident.”

Whalen already has a number of exciting projects lined up. For now, he’s keeping the plans under wraps. One thing the construction veteran has made very public is his dedication to becoming entrenched in the Tampa community. He has already teamed up with Elevate Inc. and is a top tier member of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Giving back to the community that has extended Eclipse Building Corporation such a warm welcome is a top priority for Whalen.

“With new developments rapidly rising, Tampa is a great place to be for a start-up construction company,” Whalen says. “The growth and development occurring in Tampa is the perfect setting for Eclipse Building Corporation. We’re proud to now call Tampa home.”
