As Breast Cancer Awareness Month Comes To An End, The Fight Rages On

While November is upon us and we start to see pink even less, the push for research and finding a cure still rages on. After a month of organizations all across the world raising funds to beat breast cancer, researchers can allocate the contributions and our donations go to work. EWI Construction is a proud advocate for the fight against breast cancer and have spent the last month fundraising on behalf of breast cancer awareness.

Sam Ellison, Chairman at EWI, is a member of Real Men Wear Pink Tampa. The group consists of about 20 community business leaders who are challenged to raise at least $2,500 by October 22, and Sam’s group had raised over $4,500 by mid October. RMWP Tampa competed with chapters from all over the state of Florida. “We’ve made a lot of progress toward finding a cure,” says Sam. “Research has added to the success rate of defeating [breast cancer].”

Elevate had a chance to sit down with Cory Ellison, Sam’s son and Director of Operations at EWI Construction. “[Breast cancer] is a very important issue to us,” says Cory. “We’ve been touched by it personally. Awareness is a big part of finding a cure.” Cory’s sister, Cari Ellison, is battling breast cancer with determination. EWI held a benefit in her name at District Tavern in Tampa, a project of EWI’s, where money was raised for the Young Survival Coalition.

When asked what message EWI has for anyone involved in the fight against breast cancer, Cory says, “We’re here, we get it, we know what they’re going through and we are here to support them any way we can.” The EWI Construction team dressed in pink to raise awareness for breast cancer research and hopes that other organizations can join the mission of finding a cure.
