Abdullah Khan Shares His Experience as an Undersea Oxygen Clinic Intern

Interning at Undersea Oxygen Clinic was a very interesting experience; I had the chance to learn about things that I was not initially aware of. Working with patients and Hyperbaric technicians, along with the founders such as Mario, allowed me to understand the know-hows of working in a hyperbaric clinic.

What I learned:

At UOC, I learned an important aspect of teamwork; for example, one of our projects involved putting questions regarding IBUM (International Board of Undersea Medicine), into a database to form an exam. With the project being a long one, I would’ve not been able to complete it without the help of fellow interns. It was joint effort and that’s how I learned about the importance of teamwork.

I learned how to operate hyperbaric chambers, and most importantly, understood that the hyperbaric chamber can be used in automated or manual mode. Important procedures to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction, during the hyperbaric procedure, were also made note of throughout the duration of my internship.

What this internship means for me:

Having an opportunity to work at UOC has been an interesting experience and I am grateful that Mario hired me; I have gained relevant exposure to hyperbaric medicine, and an opportunity to take part in research, that has allowed me to excel in my field. It is important to capture any and every opportunity that comes into someone’s way, because no one knows what that might bring to change a person’s life for the better. This is what happened for me, and I took the opportunity to work at UOC, and I’m very happy that I did.

How this internship prepared me for future endeavors:

Teamwork is very important when trying to accomplish something. I have seen, while interning at this clinic, that everything is done through teamwork. I was also assigned to work on a project with my fellow interns. This shows that teamwork is important for a business to run, and a project to be finished. I believe that such an experience in teamwork will make me an important asset for companies that will hire me in the future. Relevant experience regarding hyperbaric chambers, will allow me to find jobs that deal with hyperbaric chamber manufacturing. Research experience, such as the one for Sublimation process in space suits, will allow me to take part in space related careers.
