On June 9th, Christopher Pittman, M.D., CEO and founder of Vein911, gave a presentation about what he and Vein911 do when it comes to helping people feel and look their best. His presentation centered on the issue of vein disease and how the company helps, treats and manages the various types of conditions caused by vein disease.
Much of the presentation that was given centered on the common issue of varicose veins and venous insufficiency which affect millions of people in the United States. He made it very clear that you do NOT have to have bulging veins on your skin to be suffering from life style limiting symptoms of vein disease like night cramps, swelling and restless legs. According to Dr. Pittman, varicose veins are primarily a hereditary condition which is passed on through generations. However, things such as pregnancy and occupations which require long periods of sitting or standing can cause them as well. Although there are new procedures out there for dealing with vein disease, most are only partially effective for the simple reason that they do not destroy the entire abnormal vein.
Dr. Pittman described how his procedure differed from others not only because of its effective technique, but also because of the results. His procedure consists of using a laser to target the specific abnormal vein, but following that, he injects a special foam which destroys the branches of the vein which are often left behind after procedures performed by others. Most other vein centers have less effective treatments for the simple reason that they only “remove the trunk but not the branches” according to Dr. Pittman. Each session of this treatment only takes 30-40 minutes and although it may take 3-4 sessions per leg before the job is done, the patient is able to walk out after every session with no pain or lifestyle limitation.
Although the presentation centered on the issues of varicose veins, Dr. Pittman also took some time to talk about other vein and circulatory conditions in the legs and little things we can do to prevent vein disease. Some of his suggestions included to flex our calf muscles when standing or sitting for long periods to pump the blood out of your legs. Another preventative measure he recommended was to put something under your feet when sitting to improve blood flow through your legs.
Following his presentation, Dr. Pittman opened the floor to any questions from the audience. Many asked questions regarding possible conditions they may be suffering from to general advice on how they can improve their own vein health. It was during this time that Dr. Pittman showed what a truly caring and devoted professional he is by offering advice to anyone who asked for it, but also going into a level of detail which revealed his wealth of experience. Dr. Pittman displayed a level of expertise that is second to none, and his sense of humor and ease of audience engagement allowed for a stimulating and educational presentation.
