Jerry Mason has been giving back to his community for the past 30 years. Growing up in Robles Park, a Tampa Housing Authority housing project in Tampa Bay, he understands the difficulties families face. During Mason’s childhood, the programs that are available today were not available to him and his family, which is why it is so important to him to give back to families in similar positions today.
Currently, Mason is involved in many organizations throughout the Tampa Bay community. As a former Chairman of Tampa Family Health Centers, he has been a part of providing affordable healthcare to individuals who are not able to afford it. As the Treasurer of Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay, he is involved in providing affordable housing to those who cannot afford it. Rebuilding Together also assists residents to refurbish their homes at no cost.
“Seeing the excitement in someone’s face when you provide them keys to their own residence is the greatest feeling. Growing up as 1 of 9 children, I have experienced the lifestyle of some of these families. Home ownership is a key to success and being able to help families achieve a standard form of living where they can grow and progress, is something I take great pride in”, says Mason.
In addition to helping families throughout the community, Mason is also involved in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Since 1989, he has provided literacy support to college students, helping educate them on the financial industry. The organization also supports students through scholarships to continue their education.
