Lutheran Services Florida Chief Strategy Officer Amelia Fox Speaks at Centre Club’s August Breakfast with an Executive

At the August edition of the Centre Club’s “Breakfast with an Executive,” attendees had the privilege of hearing from Amelia Fox, the Chief Strategy Officer and Chief of Staff of Lutheran Services Florida (LSF). Her story is one of dedication, strategic foresight, and a passion for making a difference, both in the nonprofit and business worlds.  LSF is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to helping the most vulnerable Floridians. They work to reduce the suicide and drug addiction rate, give families in crisis the support they need to persevere, and make sure those in poverty get the education they need to close the achievement gap. Through LSF Family Focus, LSF Head Start, and LSF Health Systems, LSF impacts 1 in 50 Floridians with their programming.

A Strategic Start: Basketball and Beyond

Amelia’s journey into strategic planning began long before her professional career. As a young girl, she set a goal to join her school’s basketball team alongside her friends. To achieve this, she meticulously planned and prepared, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment to strategic thinking and goal-setting.

Educational and Professional Milestones

Amelia’s academic journey took her to Davidson College, where she honed her passion for helping others by working for a mental health organization that assisted traumatized youth. This early exposure to the challenges faced by vulnerable populations fueled her desire to make a broader impact.

Her pursuit of excellence led her to the prestigious Yale School of Management, where she focused her MBA on bridging the gap between business and nonprofit sectors. All her essays revolved around the theme of integrating business practices into the nonprofit world, a passion that would define much of her career.

Diverse Career Path and Personal Achievements

Amelia’s career trajectory is as diverse as it is impressive. She cut her teeth in the startup scene in Washington, D.C., before joining KPMG and later A&M Consulting in Atlanta. Along the way, she adopted her son, Noah, from Kazakhstan. Now 16 years old, Noah is a central part of her life and story.

Amelia’s passion for education led her to join a nonprofit startup, inBloom, as Chief Operating Officer, where she tackled the complex challenges of K-12 education. She even ventured into creating her own startup, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit.

Eventually, LSF came calling, seeking someone with Amelia’s unique blend of experience in startups, business, and nonprofit sectors. As Chief Strategy Officer, she has been instrumental in LSF’s growth, contributing to the growth of the organization from 1,200 employees to 2,500.

A Vision for the Future

Throughout her career, Amelia has adhered to a simple yet powerful philosophy: every decision must be made with the goal of being the best place for clients, employees, and investment. This guiding principle has driven her success and continues to shape her vision for LSF’s future.

Amelia Fox’s story is a testament to the power of strategic thinking, dedication, and a deep commitment to making a difference. Her journey to becoming a young basketball player and her early roots of strategic planning to get there, to a leader in the nonprofit sector serves as an inspiration to all who aspire to lead with purpose and passion.
