Recently, John Weatherford of Sunshine Bank graduated from Tampa Connection, continuing Sunshine Bank’s tradition of community involvement.
Founded in 1985, The Tampa Connection prepares its members to become “active volunteers and leaders in the Tampa Bay community while building professional relationships.” Local professionals are introduced to local issues, while building contacts and developing civic leadership skills. Members receive an avenue to become involved in volunteer opportunities, giving back to the community that gives to them.
We were able to sit down with John and learn more about the benefits he received through his time with Tampa Connection. John tells us that the Tampa Connection provided him with an opportunity to get a holistic perspective of Tampa Bay and all of the great opportunities it has to offer. Whether it is visiting local sports arenas, being educated on local nonprofits, or learning about new businesses coming to town, Tampa Connection provides a unique opportunity to turn connections into lifelong relationships.
A key aspect of Tampa Connection is the influence it provides for its members both personally and professionally. While engaging in activities that are sometimes challenging and uncomfortable, John has learned about teamwork, humility, and growth as a professional. “Personally, I have learned the importance of being a team player,” says Weatherford. “People are gifted with certain attributes and, one must plug in where needed. It’s about the team more than the individual. Through The Tampa Connection, I had the opportunity to meet awesome individuals in Tampa’s business community. Running into knowledgeable people on a consistent basis has really helped me to grow in my learning about the needs of local businesses.”
Graduating from Tampa Connection is just another example of how John Weatherford and the team at Sunshine Bank are dedicated to engaging the community that they serve. Sunshine Bank knows that to better understand the needs of the community, you have to be out there getting your hands dirty. “Anyone can go day to day, completing the same routine and simply being task oriented.” says Weatherford on recommending Tampa Connection to others. “This program keeps one’s daily activities meaningful and alive, by helping its members to see the big picture of how community members can mutually benefit one another.
