Chief Jason Dougherty Highlights the Impact of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue at The Tampa Club

Guests at The Tampa Club were treated to an informative and inspiring presentation by Jason Dougherty, who shared an inside look at the scope, impact, and community mission of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR).

Dougherty walked attendees through “HCFR by the Numbers,” highlighting the remarkable scale of service provided across the county. HCFR protects more than $147 billion in property, serves approximately 1.2 million residents and 40,000 businesses, and responds to nearly 135,000 calls for service each year across 909 square miles. With 1,380 dedicated employees operating from 47 fire stations, HCFR answers more than 350 emergency calls every day, with nearly 85% of responses being medical in nature.

Beyond emergency response, Dougherty emphasized the organization’s deep commitment to giving back through the HCFR Foundation. He highlighted key initiatives including Peer Support for first responders’ mental health and well-being, the Cadet Academy to inspire and prepare the next generation, Emergency Funds to assist firefighters and families in times of need, and Community Projects that support programs such as childhood cancer care, adaptive foster care, and vulnerable youth.

Dougherty closed by underscoring HCFR’s enduring mission: honoring heroes, uplifting families, serving the most vulnerable, and carrying forward the legacy of duty, honor, and courage. The presentation offered a powerful reminder of the critical role HCFR plays not only in protecting lives and property, but in strengthening the entire Hillsborough County community.
