The Bright Future of Pharmacy

On Friday, May 27, Dr. Kevin Sneed, Dean of University of South Florida’s College of Pharmacy provided a tour to Alpesh Patel, President of Benzer Pharmacy. Having been created in 2007, The University of South Florida’s Doctor of Pharmacy program is relatively new. USF College of Pharmacy’s-mission is to revolutionize health by the creation of patient centered healthcare through education, research, and service. The college interconnects education, culture, research abilities, and existing clinical resources currently in place, to provide the pharmacy program with a massive advantage. Furthermore, USF College of Pharmacy focuses on the empowerment of students, professionals, and patients as catalysts for change at all levels of health.

Benzer Pharmacy is a chain of independent retail and specialty pharmacies. There are currently eleven stores in the Tampa Bay region alone, and a total of fifty-five locations within nine states. Benzer Pharmacy prides itself on its community and family values: The company’s mission is to provide patients, customers and peers with personalized, professional as well as free health advice from a highly-trained and courteous staff of pharmacists and health professionals.

This partnership between USF and Benzer Pharmacy underlines the potential for higher education efficiencies. With USF’s relationship alongside independent pharmacies such as Benzer Pharmacy, the pharmacy program is able to cater its education to real-world expectations. Furthermore, as a result of the constant reform of healthcare, it is essential that there is collaboration within the academic and business communities to utilize technology and best practices for the betterment of society. Due to Tampa Bay’s continuous growth and development, it is vital that local businesses work together with educational institutions to improve the community as the infrastructure of healthcare changes.
