Brian Thornton, President & CEO of Insurance Services Group of the South East (ISG), was recently featured on That Business Show with Jamie Meloni. That Business Show is a radio show that features business owners, entrepreneurs, and people making a difference in the Tampa community. It focuses on positive messages to inspire and break the monotony of typical talk radio.
Thornton spoke about the history of his company, which he started in August of 2007. His idea to start ISG came one late night after the birth of his son when he realized the window of opportunity was closing due to the job security and comfort he had in his current role.
It is Thornton’s goal to build a brand based on how he does business. ISG comes in after variable exposure based insurance policies, like workers’ compensation and general liability, expire to audit how much exposure was really present. Exposure refers to the amount of risk involved in a job.
ISG is looking to change the way the word audit is viewed. Thornton reiterated that it is not the same as an audit done by the IRS and proposed a new phrase for the process, Annual Policy Review.
A huge problem currently hindering insurance companies in Florida is the check cashing scheme. This process involves an employer paying a third party a fee to start a company. That employer reports minimum exposure and rents out the certificate of insurance to other people for a low cost. Businesses doing the right thing are hurt the most.
Moving forward, ISG is looking forward to expanding regionally.
